African giants set their sight on former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena ahead of the 2024-2025 season.

In what was a shock departure, Mokwena parted ways with Sundowns after having a fallout with the club’s hierarchy during the 2023-2024 season.

After the club announced his departure, North African clubs AS FAR Rabat and Wydad Casablanca showed their interest in landing the 37-year-old tactician.
However, the latter was set to appoint Nabil Maàloul as the club’s head coach ahead of next season until the club’s fans demanded that they go after Mokwena, as stated by Unplayable on X.
“Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca have turned their focus to Rulani Mokwena for the Head Coach position,” Unplayable stated on X.
“Until yesterday, Wydad were close to appointing Nabil Maâloul from Tunisia, but the fans are in favour of Mokwena, according to our contact up North.”
Unplayable further went on to state that their source close to the club reported that the fans pressured the club’s new management to set their sight on Mokwena instead of 61-year-old Maàloul who won’t add value to the club due to his age.

“The fans pressured the club’s new management because they see him (Maâloul) as a burned-out, old-timer (61 years old) who won’t add any value to the club,” says Unplayable source in Morocco.
“The new management of the club wants to implement a professional strategy, which will help Mokwena to do a great job if a deal is made.”
