Yesterday, the public broadcaster SABC Sport revealed that Cape Town Spurs FC has turned down Chiefs’ Offer for the 21-year-old winger Asanele Velebayi, which left the player and his parents unhappy.
“With an initial bid sent by Chiefs this week and surprisingly turned down by Spurs, the player’s family have stepped in and are hopeful Spurs can allow Valebayi to make his dream move to The Glamour Boys,” SABC Sport stated.
“It’s further understood that Velebayi has taken this route out of frustration after Chiefs followed up their interest by formally sending through a bid they believed would match Spurs’ valuation of a player that only made his topflight debut last season.”
The broadcaster further went on to share that the family of Velebayi is looking to follow in the footsteps of Rushwin Dortley’s family.
The young defender’s family forced the Urban Warriors to let the defender join the Naturena-based club after initially rejecting the initial offer.
“Chiefs and Spurs have already managed to conclude a deal between the two parties following the agreement to transfer defender Rushwin Dortley, who was also part of that national team squad in Gqeberha,” SABC Sport added.
“It’s understood Dortley’s parents also had to get involved to force the move after Spurs were haggling with Amakhosi over the fee.”
Meanwhile, Chiefs is said to not be read to give up on the youngster after he made his intentions of leaving Spurs for the club after handing in his transfer request.
“SABC Sport is led to believe Chiefs will not give up, and perhaps the family’s involvement will now tip the discussions in their favour.
“Velebayi has made it clear to the Urban Warriors he wants to leave, and it’s expected that the mother will emphasise this stance,” Sport concluded.
