New Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena targets Mamelodi Sundowns stars a day after joining the Moroccan giants.

Mokwena was announced as Wydad’s head coach yesterday on a two-year deal with an option to extend for a further year a week after parting ways with Sundowns.

Less than a day into his new job, the 37-year-old is said to be eyeing to add a few players from Sundowns to his team for the 2024-2025 Botola season.
According to one of Africa’s leading journalists, Micky Jnr, Wydad is in talks to sign Moroccan international Abdelmounaim Boutouil from Sundowns.
“Can confirm that: Wydad are in talks to sign Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil (26) from Mamelodi Sundowns to follow Rulani Mokwena up North,” Micky Jnr stated on X.
The 26-year-old was brought to the Brazilians by Mokwena back in 2022 from Mohammedia and said to not be the only player Mokwena is targeting from Sundowns.
“Two more players are on high on Wydad’s list from Sundowns,” Micky concluded.

Meanwhile, Mokwena is also targeting a South African dominated technical team, with the likes of Sinethemba Badela, Michael Loftman, and performance analyst Dayle Solomon heavily linked with the vacant posts.
