The two youngsters revealed to Supersport TV what led to them having the season they had last season.
They both attributed their success to Sundowns starlet, Thapelo Maseko, for how he performed during his time at Matsatsantsa after being promoted to the first team during the season 2021-2022.
Campbell who earned a lucrative move to Belgian club, Club Brugge after registering 11 goal contributions in 30 matches in all competitions last season, revealed how he was supposed to be his understudy before he moved to Sundowns.
“When I was in the DStv Diski Challenge, I knew I was going to go to the first team. He (Maseko) wasn’t supposed to leave; I was supposed to be under his wing,” Campbell said.
I got thrown in the deep lane, I would just try to apply what he does, but not exactly everyone has different styles.
“But he inspired me to play like that; since DDC, he used to come down, and I would be on the bench.
“I didn’t take it as a negative. It was a positive, so when I do play when he goes up, I can do what he does or try.”
Meanwhile, the PSL Young Player of the Season and Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player winner Mofokeng also had his say about how the South African international has motivated him to put more effort into his game.
“I also got inspired by him after two years there (SuperSport) after a one-year senior national team. It motivated me. I used to talk to him, and he would say, ‘Keep on working, boy’,” Mofokeng told Supersport TV.
