Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is likely to return for the club’s MTN8 semifinal encounters against Stellenbosch FC later this month and early next month.
Williams underwent surgery during the off-season to fix a problematic shoulder that he injured during the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast back in January this year.

After missing the preparations for the new season, Williams has since returned to the training but missed the club’s first match of the season when they played Polokwane City at home in the quarterfinals of the MTN8.
The Brazilians are likely to have the South African national captain back in action in their next match after he was named in Bafana Bafana’s Preliminary squad to face Uganda and South Sudan in the opening rounds of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.
Bafana will first face Uganda on the 6th of September at Orlando Stadium, Soweto, in Johannesburg before facing South Sudan four days later at Juba Stadium in South Sudan.
Meanwhile, Sundowns are hopeful of having the former Supersport United captain back for their two-legged semifinal clash after Denis Onyango received a red card during their last match against City.
But if Williams doesn’t recover in time to face the Winelands, Reyaad Pieterse, Jody February, and Sanele Tshabalala are set to battle for the number one spot.
