Orlando Pirates Sporting Club of Namibia, affectionately known as the Buccaneers, has been relegated from the premier division for the first time in 39 years.
This relegation was sealed after a 2-0 defeat to African All Stars, leaving the club with only 26 points at the end of the season.

The Buccaneers’ fall from grace has been stark. Finishing 15th in a league of 16, they are now one of the three teams demoted to the First Division.
It’s a poignant moment for a club that was among the founding members of the league in 1985.
With their relegation, only Tigers FC and African Stars FC remain from the original lineup, both hailing from Katutura.
The history of the Orlando Pirates SC is rich and storied.
Club’s name was the brainchild of Namibian students Erkie Claasen and Harald Sam during their studies in South Africa.
The Buccaneers made history in 1990 by winning the inaugural Namibia Premiership and added another title to their collection in 2008.
Notable former players like Robert Nauseb, Riaan Hanamub, and Theophilus Tsowaseb have graced the pitches of the PSL and NFD.
Interestingly, Hanamub, who currently plays for AmaZulu in South Africa, has been rumored to join South Africa’s Pirates.
Meanwhile, Nauseb holds the unique distinction of having played for both the South African Buccaneers and their rivals, Kaizer Chiefs.
While the connection between Namibia’s Pirates and the Pirates of South Africa remains informal, the influence of the Soweto giants and Chiefs is undeniable, with a significant fanbase extending across the border.
