Mamelodi Sundowns star backs himself up for the Premier Soccer League(PSL) Footballer of the Season Award, as the season is heading for an end.
With the season just less than three weeks from ending, players in the Dstv Premiership are bracing themselves up for end of the season’s awards.
Players from the league champions, the Brazilians, are expected to dominate the nominations like they have done in the last 10 seasons.
However, the talking point in the South African football fraternity has been on whether the Sundowns star, Ronwen Williams, deserves to win the award or not.
Speaking to Andile Ncube on Metro FM show Sports Night Amplified With Andile Ncube on Wednesday night, the 32-year-old backed himself for the award.
“I don’t understand when people say a goalkeeper cannot win the player of the season award,” said Williams during an interview on Sports Night Amplified on Wednesday.
“I have never seen a game being played without a goalkeeper. We are part and parcel of the team and the team dynamics.”
Bafana Bafana is likely to go against his teammate, Teboho Mokoena, and Orlando Pirates star attacker Patrick Maswanganyi for the top award.
