Orlando Pirates legend Andries Sebola criticises the club’s star attacker Patrick Maswanganyi after his actions during 2024 MTN8 quarterfinal clash against Supersport United this past weekend.

Maswanganyi had an influential game against Matsatsantsa a Pitori where the Buccaneers sealed a 3-1 victory after extra time thanks to goals from Olisa Ndah, Monnapule Saleng, and Evidence Makgopa while Vincent Pule scored the sole goal for the visitors.

Despite the 26-year-old running the show at Orlando Stadium, his contact at the field left many unhappy with one of those being Pirates’ legend Andries Sebola.
During the match, the South African international had multiple confrontations with Supersport players, including Thulani Hlatshwayo and Gape Moralo, whom he ended up elbowing.
Speaking to FarPost, Sebola warned Maswanganyi of how his behaviour in the field can derail his progress of becoming one of the greatest players in South African football history.
“He must control his words and attitude. Exchanging words with the assistant coach (Andre Arendse) of the opponents and hitting the opponent (Gape Moralo) with an elbow, that was a red card if the referee saw it,” Sebola told FARPost.
“If he wants to be a big player for Pirate, he has to control his attitude and emotions because he’s not a big player for Pirates yet. He hasn’t arrived there but otherwise, he’s a good player.”
Maswanganyi is expected to be among standout performers this season, like last season, where he registered 22 goal contributions in 40 matches across all competitions.
