A week after parting ways with the Brazilians, Mokwena joined African and Morrocan giants, Wydad, on a three-year deal with an option to extend the deal for a further season.

The former Orlando Pirates head coach shared that he was not the only man in the running for the post despite landing it upon him becoming available.

He revealed to Metro FM show Sports Night Amplified With Andile(SNAWA), that former Real Madrid and Liverpool veteran coach Rafael Benitez was also on the shortlist of the coaches the club were looking to bring.

“Rafael Benitez was on the shortlist for this Wydad job” – Rulani Mokwena said on SNAWA.

However, the club decided on going with him, and he is looking forward to leading the club back to the top of Moroccan and African football.
