Rulani Mokwena reveals that he rejected an offer from Richards Bay FC before moving to Morocco.

Mokwena mutually parted ways with Sundowns after having a fallout with the club’s hierarchy led by Sporting Director Flemming Berg over transfers and missed objectives.

A week later, the 37-year-old completed a lucrative three-year deal with an option for a further year at Wydad Athletic Club, but before that, Richards Bay tabled a good offer for his services.
But the tactician turned it down due to the bond he had with Sundowns and the club’s players, Mokwena told Andile Ncube on Metro FM show Sports Night Amplified With Andile(SNAWA).
“(There) was a good offer from Richards Bay, but I just couldn’t stay in South Africa and go up against Sundowns as a coach,” Rulani Mokwena said on SNAWA.
“The bond I have with Sundowns players would have made it difficult for me to be on the opposite bench. That is one of the reasons I preferred to leave South Africa,”
He further went on to detail how he had to beat former Liverpool and Real Madrid legendary coach Rafael Benitez to the Wydad’s head coach job.
