The Buccaneers lost both Bandile Shandu and Paseka Mako to season ending injuries, which left the club short in the wide areas when it came to the defence.
With the final less than two months, Pirates lost another two defenders, as Thabiso Lebitso fractured his collarbone during a Dstv Premiership clash against Royal AM FC which required surgery to fix it and in turn missing the remainder of the season.
However, the club’s problems in defence continued this past week, as they lost one of the club’s captains, Tapelo Xoki, through a knee injury.
The defender suffered the injury in training heading into the league match away at TS Galaxy FC, which Pirates lost 1-0, and he is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Sundowns is also facing an injury crisis ahead of the final, as Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Teboho Mokoena are doubtful for the final, as they are both carrying hamstring injuries.
While defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil is set to miss the remainder of the season.
