Former Kaizer Chiefs and now FCSB defender Siyabonga Ngezana refuses to have surgery on his injured right knee to keep his dream of playing the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup alive.

The lanky defender suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee during the 2025 African Cup of Nations(AFCON) tournament with Bafana Bafana back in December in Morocco.
He has since went on to miss just under five months of action due to the injury putting him at risk of missing the upcoming FIFA World Cup which will be held in United States of America, Canada, and Mexico in just over a month and a half’s time.
The 28-year-old returned to action for the first time this year during his club’s 3-2 victory over FCV Farul this past weekend, playing the last 12 minutes to help his side to come of the tightly contested match with all three points.
However, after the match the owner and Chairman of Board of Directors of the club, Mihai Stoica revealed that the South African international refused to go under the knife to fix his knee as that would see him miss the showpiece event in June.
“He is injured. He refuses to have surgery,” Mihai Stoica stated.
“Let’s see when he will play, if he will play, or if his knee will hold up and he will be fine.”
Ngezana will hope to be part of the Bafana side that will play the opening match of the tournament against Mexico on the 11th of June at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City, Mexico.
