Mokwena mutually parted ways with the Brazilians last week after having a fallout with the club’s hierarchy led by Sporting Director Flemming Berg.

A few hours after his departure from Chloorkop, North African clubs,  AS FUS Rabat, and Wydad Casablanca showed interest in the 37-year-old tactician.

Both Morrocan clubs are without coaches after losing their respective head coaches during the 2023-2024 season, with Rabat losing Nasreddine Nabi to Chiefs.

However, Wydad appears close to landing Mokwena’s signature after the club’s fans demand that the club go against signing Tunisian coach Nabil Maàloul and go for Mokwena.

Wydad’s new management decided to go in for Mokwena despite reaching a deal in principle with Maàloul, and where prepared to go all out to sign land the former Orlando Pirates coach.

One of Africa’s leading journalists, Micky Jnr, says the South African is close to confirming a new club less than a week after leaving Sundowns.

Meanwhile, his former club continues to trim their squad ahead of next season with the likes of Nyiko Mobbie, Jody February, Reyaad Pieterse, and Rushine De Reuck linked with a possible exit.
