Mamelodi Sundowns veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango is set to continue playing for at least another season.

Towards the beginning of the 2023-2024 season, Onyango signed a one-year contract deal with an option to extend for a further year in what is believed to be his last playing contract at the club.

With the club’s number one, Ronwen Williams on top form and the likes of Jody February and Ricardo Goss waiting for an opportunity, the Ugandan was expected to hang up his boots at the end of last season.
However, in what came as a shock to many, the veteran goalkeeper is set to continue playing despite being the most decorated footballer in the history of South African football with 20 honours, which includes 11 league titles, three Nedbank Cups, and CAF Champions League title to name a few.
The club has triggered the one-year extension offer in his contract, and he is now set to play for the Chloorkop-based club well into his 40s, as by the time his contract expires, he will be 40.
Onyango joins Sammy Seabi and Themba Zwane in the club, triggering an extension clause in their respective contracts.
Meanwhile, the club is still facing some contractual challenges when it comes to players like Grant Kekana and Teboho Mokoena, who have turned down the club’s initial contract offers.
