Orlando Pirates star attacking middlefielder Patrick Maswanganyi is backed for European return after brilliant 2023-2024 season.

Maswanganyi has been nothing short of brilliant ever since joining the Buccaneers before the start of last season from SuperSport United on a free transfer.

The influencial middlefielder registered 22 goal contributions in 40 matches for the Sea Robbers in his first season leading the club to a cup double after winning both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles, as well as three individual awards(Dstv Premiership middlefielder of the season, Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament, and PSL Players’ Player of the Season).
After brilliant start to the 2024-2025 season, which saw him lead Pirates to a 3-1 victory over Supersport United in a MTN8 quarterfinal clash, the 26-year-old is backed to make a return to Europe.
“There is a chance he can still come back to Europe,” the man who was behind his move to Europe back in 2019, Nadime Mahmoud told KickOff.
The Portuguese based agent was behind Maswanganyi’s move to Portugal in 2019 from Stars of Africa Academy and detailed how the South African can head back to Europe.
Maswanganyi played for Oliveirense in the lower division of Portuguese football before later moving to Academica’s under 23 side and back home to Supersport United.
“The good thing is that he is in a place where he is enjoying his football again, and that is what is important for a player like Tito.
“I don’t think Pirates will let go of him easy because the transfer fee is what will determine if he can come back to Europe.
“There are financial aspects to it that must make sense. At 26, he is in his peak, and I feel he has his mind on the job.
“If he is to come back to Europe, it might be difficult that he goes to a team keen to have a sell-on value on him, but you never know in this game.
“His physical attributes have given him attributes to be a player that he is now. He has been able to outnumber challenges,” Mahmoud concluded.
