Wydad Athletic Club’s hierarchy is understood to have made a decision regarding the future of the club’s underfire head coach, Rulani Mokwena.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician has been on odds with the club’s fans since October last year and toned down after a good run of results that saw the Reds be in the picture for CAF Champions League qualification spots for next season.
However, the recent poor run that saw Mokwena’s side draw three consecutive matches against CODM Meknès, RS Berkane, FUS Rabat sees fans back on his case and demanding that he should be fired.

The tension between Mokwena and the fans took a huge turn that the club’s hierarchy decided to get involved and asked the South African to not get involved with the fans while also deciding his future at the club.
According to Le Site Info, the Casablanca-based club has decided to keep the under pressure 38-year-old coach, as the club’s short-term that includes the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup revolves around him.
“Wydad management expressed its annoyance at Mokwena’s recent statements and the draw against FUS Rabat. However, its position remains unchanged,” Le Site Info states.
“The club’s leaders have no intention of parting ways with Mokwena, as the club’s short-term plan hinges on the South African coach’s presence at the 2025 Club World Cup, a clear commitment between the two parties.
“Wydad management thus reiterates its confidence in Mokwena while expressing some reservations regarding some of his media statements.”
Meanwhile, Mokwena’s side will be away to Ittihad Tanger this Sunday looking to return to winning ways after drawing the last three matches.
