Mamelodi Sundowns fans heavily criticise Cape Town City FC boss John Comitis for his comment on Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates having to win the league.

Comitis discussed the importance of Chiefs and Pirates winning the league in the near future on Metro FM show Sports Night Amplified(SNAWA) this past week.

Stating that it will be good for clubs financially given the two Soweto giants are able to pull a lot of fans to stadiums.

“The PSL platform exposes a brand to a multimillion fanbase, and corporates are not capitalising on this,” Comitis said on SNAWA.

“It’s important that Chiefs or Pirates win the league soon because that is good for business.

“To me, and I know I’m speaking against myself, but when Chiefs and Pirates isn’t up there, we (Cape Town City) can feel the down, as a team that is not Chiefs or Pirates.

“When Chiefs and Pirates are winning, the stadiums are full, and it’s a snowball effect.”

However, Comitis’ words left bitter taste on Sundowns’ Online Branch, as they released a statement subjected “Reckless comments made by Cape Town City owner John Comitis” voicing their unhappiness in what he said by addressing their statement to whom it may concern.

“As the Mamelodi Sundowns Online Branch, we have come across shocking and disturbing remarks made by John Comitis, who suggested that when the two underachieving teams from Soweto win the league, it is “good for business” because stadiums will be packed,” the statement read.

“These remarks are not only highly controversial but also unacceptable, especially coming from someone who owns a team in the PSL.

“By making such statements, Mr. Comitis is indirectly promoting (the) idea that teams like his might deliberately give away points to these overatted Soweto Teams.

“Such comments also appear to endorse poor officiating that we’ve witnessed in Cup competitions involving Orlando Pirates, where it seems officials are deliberately aiding them to reach and win finals.

“We find Mr. Comitis remarks are harmful to the integrity of our league. They suggest a bias that has no place in professional football and fuel concerns that officiating is being manipulated to favour these Soweto teams since they clearly can not compete with Mamelodi Sundowns on merit alone.

“We demand that John Comitis issue an apology for his idiotic comments, which promotes bad officiating and undermines the credibility of the PSL.

“The league should not tolerate such disrespect towards teams that have proven their dominance through hard work and performance on the field,” Mamelodi Sundowns Online Branch concluded.

Sundowns supporters being emotional since Comitis remarks are spot on. He never mentioned officiating yet you are the ones coming up with it because you know that your team thrives through bad officiating.

Stop being childish, Comitis knows gate takings is galore when against the team mentioned. Pirates is playing well and you can see Orlando is always packed.

From my understanding, Comitis did not say he will make Chiefs and Pirates win games, he only meant when the two teams do well it boosts the leaugue financially

Truth is so bitter, I wonder why is this hurting just one team supporters, and not the other team supporters

It may be true, but it is unprofessional from him given that he is among big brass in the league and also owns a club in the league
