Dstv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns is among the top spending clubs in Africa in the last six seasons.

Sundowns’ quest to being among Africa’s best clubs has come at a high cost, as the club has spent well over billions of Rands in players ever since Dr. Patrice Motsepe bought the club back in 2003 and 2004.

The recent signing of the 22-year-old striker Arthur de Oliveira Sales from Lommel SK for €3.2 million(R63.7 million) showed the club’s willingness to spend big on players.
Breaking the South African transfers’ record for the most expensive player, breaking a record they set two seasons ago when they signed Marcelo Allende for a then record €2.9 million(R57.7 million).
Masandawana’s heavy spending puts them in third position in Africa when it comes to the highest spending clubs as well as the transfers net spending, behind Egyptian clubs Pyramids FC and Al Ahly SC in first and in second respectively.

Sundowns has spent €17.62 million(R351 million) on transfers in the last six seasons while receiving €4.7 million(R93.62 million) for a net transfers balance of -€12.92 million(-R257 million).

Meanwhile, the Chloorkop-based club dominates top transfer fees in South African football fraternity, as in the top 100 transfer fees in the top-tier tier of South African football, only 56 are not from the club.
This means 44 of the 100 top transfer fees were paid by the Brazilians since Motsepe took over the club in 2003 and 2004.
