Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa attacker Lucas Ribeiro Costa is linked a shock return to South African football.

The Brazilian forcibly parted ways with Sundowns before the beginning of the current season after a successful 2024-2025 season.
His stellar season saw him win a multiple individual awards including the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup goal of the tournament beating the likes of Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich attacker Jamal Musiala for the award.

The 2024-2025 Betway Premiership Footballer of the Season joined a Spanish second division side, Leonesa, on a one-year deal, which is in its final two months and opening doors for clubs to sign the attacker.
With Leonesa in a relegation battle that they are likely to come out of victorious, Ribeiro is heavily linked with a move away from the club, and several clubs are showing interest.
One of the clubs said to be showing interest is Sundowns’ arch-rivals, Kaizer Chiefs. Amakhosi hierarchy is said to be working to try to bring in the attacker ahead of next season.
But the Naturena-based club will have to beat a number of clubs across the globe to bring Ribeiro back into the country.
