The 18-year-old suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament(ACL) injury mid-season last season playing for Sundowns’ reserve team in Dstv Diski Challenge(DDC).

The injury forced the South African junior international to miss the remainder of the season, as it required at least six months to fully recover from the injury.

More than six months after suffering the devastating injury, the youngster got his chance to return to the field of play to showcase his talent.

After returning with a goal to help Sundowns beat Richards Bay 4-0, Mabena broke his silence about returning to the field, with South African football fraternity approving of his return.

He took to his Instagram account, @mabena_siyabonga, to share how he feels about returning to playing football again.

“Feels so good to be back,” Mabena stated in his Instagram account.

Fellow football players like Mfundo Vilakazi, Aden McCarthy, Sanele Barns, Jody February, Fawaaz Basadien, Thando Buthelezi, Jabulani Mokone, Sfiso Timba, and Kutlwano Letlhaku, and also media personnel like Oscar Mbo and  Dedrick Bonolo showed the youngster love and excitement for his return.

Meanwhile, Mabena will look to continue his good start to the season this upcoming Saturday, as Sundowns starts the defence of the league title away to Chippa United.
