Mamelodi Sundowns star attacker Lucas Ribeiro Costa beats Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi and seven others to a FIFA Award.

The Brazilian was put against arguably the greatest footballer of all time Messi, Bayern Munich attacker, Jamal Musiala, Red Bull Salzburg’s Oscar Gloukh, Kenan Yildiz of Juventus, Jhon Arias of then Fluminense(now Wolverhampton Wanderers), Wessam Abhou Ali of Al Ahly, Jesús M Corona of FC Monterrey, Reece James and João Pedro both of Chelsea for the goal of the tournament award.

After days of voting, the Sundowns attacker received over 40% of votes to win the award for his solo goal during a 4-3 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in their second game of tournament.

Sundowns ended third in group F with four points from three games missing narrowly missing out on a spot to the round of 16.

Dortmund(seven points) and Fluminense(five points) finished first and second respectively to advance to the round of 16 stage.
