New Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena given final say on the club’s players transfers.

Rulani Mokwena signing a contract to become Wydad Athletic Club head coach ahead of the 2024-2025 season.

Mokwena joined the Morrocan giants on a two-year deal with an option for a further year after shockingly parting ways with the South African top-tier league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 37-year-old’s departure was said to have been because of a fallout between the technician and club’s management led by Sporting Director Flemming Berg.

Despite meeting the objective of winning the CAF Champions League, Mokwena allegedly had disagreements with Berg over transfers, as the duo were targeting different players while also wanted to show different players the exit doors at Chloorkop.

However, the former Orlando Pirates coach seems to be ahead of those times, as at the Casablanca-based club, he will be in charge of the club’s transfers, especially the players coming in.

According to one of the publications close to the club, Wydad Red Castle, Mokwena will be in charge of whom the club signs, as the WAC board will not sign players without his approval.

“The board will not sign a player without the approval of Rulani Mokwena,” Wydad Red Castle stated on X.

Meanwhile, the club is set to travel to Turkey for the 2024-2025 pre-season, where they will be using Emirhan Sport Complex in Antalya as their base.
