New Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena takes a swipe at Mamelodi Sundowns Sporting Director, Flemming Berg.
Following the mutual agreement to partways with Sundowns, Mokwena has on multiple occasions hinted that the club’s Sporting Director, Berg, was the reason behind his departure.

Despite not being able to fully explain what led to his departure from Chloorkop to the public because of a Non-Disclosure Agreement(NDA) he signed, the 37-year-old has hit back at Sundowns’ policy of putting Berg in charge of transfer dealings.
Speaking to Radio 2000 on Game On show this past Monday night, he revealed the importance of coaches having a final say in transfer dealings and the technical team he works with, as responsibilities of the club performing well or not falls on the coach.
“It’s difficult for a coach to be accountable and not responsible. That’s what happens in football all over the world. It’s the coach who needs to be accountable for the results. It’s the coach who gets fired if the team doesn’t win,” Mokwena said during an interview on Radio 2000.
He further went on to describe how he has been the full responsibility at Wydad of making calls when it comes to transfers and technical teams.
“The president (of Wydad) showed me that they were actually in negotiations with three technical directors. He said to them that they’ll have to be interviewed by the new coach, and the coach must approve. I don’t have a sporting director, and I don’t have a technical director, but if we do get one, it will be because we sat down and I did the interview.

“That responsibility has fortunately been given to us, and the truth of the matter is that the sporting director either works very closely or parallels with the coach or works under the coach. A sporting director is never above the coach in football clubs.”
