Kaizer Chiefs’ legendary goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, is said to have received an offer from a Dstv Premiership club.

Kaizer Chiefs veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune during the 2023-24 season.

Last weekend, during a goalless draw against Polokwane City, Chiefs honoured Khune for his remarkable service spanning a quarter of a century.

The event felt like a farewell, but both the club and the player insisted that it was merely a show of appreciation.

Khune, who made his debut in August 2007 at the age of 20, holds the record for featuring in the most consecutive seasons as a Chiefs player in the PSL era (16 seasons) since his introduction.

Despite rumours of retirement, Khune dropped a teasing hint during his post-match interview.

Fans are now speculating whether he will stay on at the club or explore other opportunities.

Initially, the plan was for him to transition into an ambassadorial role or join the technical staff as a goalkeeper coach.

However, Khune has made it clear that he still wants to play and is not ready to hang up his boots just yet.

Khune’s decision will ultimately depend on two key factors:

Career Path: At 36 years old (turning 37 in June), Khune believes he still has more to offer as a player.

His passion for the game and desire to continue playing are strong motivators.

If an opportunity to play isn’t available at Chiefs, he may assess his options elsewhere.

Amakhosi’s Final Decision: The appointment of a new coach will play a crucial role.

Whoever takes charge will have the final say on Khune’s future, along with several other stars.

Unless management makes a decision before appointing the new coach, Khune’s fate remains uncertain.

Sekhukhune United has already made an offer for Khune earlier in the season according to Soccer Laduma.

Given his experience and reputation, he won’t be short of suitors.
