Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi explains the roles Themba Zwane will play at the club this season.

With the veteran middlefielder heading into his season at Sundowns having joined the club back in 2011 from a non professional side, Zwane is expected to play a key role to helping the club to achieve it’s objectives.

Sentiments shared by the club’s head coach Mngqithi, who expects the 35-year-old attacker to lead the club, as they will be playing in seven competitions this season.
Ahead of their first match of the season in the 2024 MTN8 quarterfinal clash against Polokwane City at the Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, Mngqithi discussed the importance of Zwane and the role he will play this season.
“They are many areas that Themba (Zwane) can help us with,” Mngqithi told the media during the MTN8 quarterfinal interview.
“We still believe he’s got a lot in his legs. It is up to him where he adapts better, but he’s got a role to play in the front three. He’s got a role to play in the middlefield three.
“We can always evolve within the same system, maybe from a 4-3-3 to a diamond, then he’s got a place there. From a 4-3-3, maybe into a 4-3-2-1, he’s got a place there.
“They are many possibilities for him. He is a very big player for us.”
Meanwhile, the South African international will look to add to his 80 goals, 59 assits, and 406 games after extending his stay at the club for a further year.

His Sundowns and Bafana teammate Teboho Mokoena also extended his stay at the club after signing a new five year deal that will keep him at the club until 30th June 2029.
