Wydad AC: Lahtimi’s Injury And Recovery

Wydad Athletic Club will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the African Football League final on Sunday.

The first leg ended in a 2-1 victory for Wydad in Morocco.

However, one of Wydad’s key players, Montasser Lahtimi, is a big doubt for the match after suffering an injury in the first half of the first leg.

The 22-year-old winger joined Wydad on loan from Turkish club Trabzonspor this season and has been one of their most prolific attackers.

Lahtimi was involved in the opening goal for Wydad when he ran past Sundowns’ defence and crossed the ball which led to Rivaldo Coetzee conceding an own goal.

However, in the stoppage time of the first half, Lahtimi collided with Sundowns’ star midfielder Tebogo Mokoena and went off with a knock.

He trained alone on Wednesday ahead of their flight to South Africa on Thursday and his participation in the second leg is uncertain.

Wydad have since arrived in South Africa ahead of their clash with Sundowns and will hope that Lahtimi can recover in time to play.

The second leg will take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday at 3 pm South African time.
