TS Galaxy still waiting for Mamelodi Sundowns and the club’s middlefielder Bongani Zungu.

TS Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi has revealed that Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu has not apologised to Bernard Parker, who suffered a horrific leg injury after a nasty challenge from Zungu.

The incident

The incident occurred during the Carling Knockout Cup match between TS Galaxy and Sundowns on Wednesday night at Mbombela Stadium.

Zungu clattered into Parker in the 57th minute of the game and was shown a straight red card for his actions.

Parker, 37, was stretchered off the field and taken to hospital with a broken leg.

The reaction

The tackle sparked outrage among football fans, who called for Zungu’s ban from playing football and accused him of being arrogant and having anger issues.

Some also questioned his professionalism and team spirit.

Podcast and Chill host Sol Phenduka was among those who slammed Zungu on X and demanded a statement from him and some level of accountability and remorse.

The defence

Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena defended Zungu after the game and said he did not intend to hurt Parker.

He also praised Zungu’s quality as a player and said he hoped Parker would recover soon.

He added that Zungu was emotional after the incident and that he would learn from his mistake.

The support

TS Galaxy players visited Parker in hospital on Thursday morning and wished him a speedy recovery.

Sukazi said that the club was focused on supporting Parker and that he would have a home at Galaxy whether he decided to play again or not.

He also said that the club had not heard from Zungu or Sundowns regarding the incident.

The aftermath

The injury is likely to keep Parker sidelined for a long time, and it could be a career-ending one for the veteran player.

Parker has played for several clubs in South Africa, including Kaizer Chiefs, and Thanda Royal  Zulu . He has also represented the national team 74 times and scored 23 goals.

TS Galaxy dedicated their victory over Sundowns to Parker.
