South African national team head coach Hugo Broos not selecting Cele for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin last month left many shocked given the form the player was in.

The middlefielder has been arguably one of the best middlefielders in the country ever since joining Amakhosi on a free transfer back in January.
His form left many hopeful that he will get the call-up for last month’s World Cup qualifiers, but was snubbed by a Belgian tactician who stated the club’s form as the reason behind the snub.
However, despite not getting the call-up, the middlefielder is determined to keep performing and helping his club to return to fork and win matches, which he believes will earn him a place in the national team.
“To do what I have been doing trying to help the team,” Cele stated.
“I think with the team performing and winning matches, it is going to be a natural eventful thing for me to get a chance in the national team.
