First Half Woes

FCSB, the league leaders, were hoping to bounce back from three consecutive draws when they hosted their city rivals Rapid Bucharest on Sunday, the 5th of November.

However, they were stunned by a spirited performance from the visitors, who scored twice in the first half to take control of the game.

Rapid took the lead in the 39th minute, when Jayson Papeau found the net.

The goal came against the run of play, as FCSB had dominated possession and created several chances, but failed to convert them.

Things went from bad to worse for FCSB in the injury time of the first half, when they conceded another goal through Paul Iacob.

Second Half Fightback

FCSB came out with more urgency and intensity in the second half, and managed to reduce the deficit in the 66th minute, Joyskim Dawa.

However, Rapid defended well and frustrated FCSB, who could not find the equaliser.

Rapid also had some chances to extend their lead, but were denied by the FCSB goalkeeper.

The final whistle confirmed Rapid’s 2-1 victory, which ended FCSB’s unbeaten run in the league.

Rapid also claimed the bragging rights in the city derby, and moved up to fourth place in the table.

Table Toppers Under Pressure

The loss meant that FCSB’s lead at the top of the table was cut to just one point, with 39 points from 15 games.

They also have played a game more than their closest rivals, CFR Cluj, who are in second place with 38 points.

FCSB will have to regroup and improve their form, as they face a tough challenge to retain their title.

Rapid, on the other hand, will be delighted with their result, and will look to build on their momentum in the next games.
