The Mother of the late Orlando Pirates and South African national team goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa pleads with his killers.
The Murder Of Senzo Meyiwa
Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed on October 26, 2014, in Vosloorus, a township near Johannesburg at the tender age of 27 years old.
He was visiting his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, at her home when five armed men allegedly stormed in and demanded money and cellphones.
Meyiwa was shot in the chest as he tried to protect Khumalo and her family.
The murder shocked the nation and sparked outrage among soccer fans and the public.
Meyiwa was hailed as a hero and a leader on and off the field.
He had played for Orlando Pirates, one of the most popular clubs in South Africa, since 2005 while he also represented his country.
The Trial Of The Suspects
They are Muzikawulahlelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Sifiso Ntuli.
They have pleaded not guilty and claimed that they were falsely implicated by the police.
They are currently awaiting trial at the Johannesburg High Court.

The state has indicated that it has a strong case against them, based on forensic evidence, cellphone records, and witness statements.
The Pain Of The Family
Meyiwa’s family has been waiting for justice for nine years.
They have expressed their frustration and disappointment with the slow pace of the investigation and the prosecution.
They have also accused Khumalo of withholding information and obstructing justice.
Meyiwa’s mother, Ntombifuthi Meyiwa, said that watching the court case has been torture for her.
She said that she cries everyday wishing the killers could have a conscience and confess to the murder.
She said that she hopes that the truth will come out and that her son’s killers will be punished.
She said that she will never be able to see Senzo again, while the suspects might get parole in the future.
She said that she misses her son dearly and that he was her pride and joy.

She said that he had a bright future ahead of him and that he was loved by many people.
