Sekhukhune United Football Club could still miss out on the CAF Confederations Cup qualification despite reaching the final of the 2023 Nedbank Cup.
After beating Stellenbosch Football Club 4-3 on penalties at the Danie Craven Stadium in Cape Town yesterday, many thought the Limpopo-based club has qualified for next season’s CAF Confederations Cup.
This comes after their opponent in the final Orlando Pirates Football Club is in line to finish second or third on the Dstv Premiership log table, which will see them qualify for the CAF competition next season.
Despite one of Mzansi’s top journalists Lorenz Köhler reporting that Babina Noko has sealed continental football next season, our findings suggest that it is not the case yet and they may miss out even if they were to win the Nedbank Cup.
Below is a tweet from Köhler suggesting that Sekhukhune has sealed the CAF inter-club football next season:

In section four, rule 13 of CAF rules the rule states that “The winner of CAF Confederations Cup must take part in the next edition of CAF Confederations Cup unless it is engaged in CAF Champions League of the same season”
The winners of the Confed Cup take the place of the club that has qualified by winning the Nedbank Cup.
Marumo Gallants Football Club is still in the running to win this season’s Confederations Cup, which put Sekhukhune’s chance of qualifying in jeopardy.
And should they win the tournament, Sekhukhune will miss out on CAF Inter-Club football next season.

Sekhukhune’s Nedbank Cup final opponents Pirates are guaranteed at least a Confed Cup qualification, as they are guaranteed to finish second or third in the league.
