One of the matches that South African football lovers lookout for once the fixture is released is the Soweto Derby matches.

While the match between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates is usually the one where many focus on.

Moroka Swallows is also a part of the Soweto Giants club.

Having returned to the premier of South African football back in the season 2021/2022, the Birds have played in multiple Soweto derby matches.

Their match against Pirates is considered the original Soweto derby.

They are the first two Soweto sides to play against each other in the professional game before Chiefs was born.

This season’s first Soweto Derby clash was supposed to be played during the fifth round of the Dstv Premiership round.

ORLANDO PIRATES FOOTBALL CLUB’S FIRST SOWETO DERBY CLASH OF THE SEASON POSTPONED!

But fans have to wait a little longer to see the first Soweto derby of the season.

Due to Pirates’ heavy August fixture list due to CAF Champions commitments, their match against Swallows is postponed.

The match was supposed to be played next Tuesday, the 22nd of August 2023, at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg.

But it is now postponed and will be played at the later stage of the season.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are currently in Comoros to play their first leg of the CAF Champions League first preliminary round.

The match will be played on Saturday, the 19th of August, at the Stade Moroni Stadium with kikick-off is set for 14h30 SA time.
