Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi admits to doubting the club’s appointment of Jose Riveiro as head coach.
Riveiro Pirates in June 2022 in a shock move that surprised South African football fraternity.
The Spaniard was an unknown in South African football fraternity and had no trophy in his CV.
But Riveiro won his first two trophies in his maiden season out of Europe.
However, his assistant Ncikazi had his doubt about the appointment of Riveiro as the club’s head coach.

The club demoted Ncikazi after hiring the Spanish tactician, and the former Golden Arrows coach first had his doubts about their relationship.
He told Idiskitv that he was confused at first because he didn’t know what kind of people they were.
Given that they come from two different worlds and they see and do things differently.
But upon working with them, he has learned that they are professionals.
And despite a poor start to life at Pirates together, the coaching staff is now a unit.

In their first season together, the club finished second in the league and won the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies.
And they also promised fans to compete for league and continental honours next season.
