Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune pens a message to Dr Kaizer Motaung after signing a contract extension with the club.

Kaizer Chiefs Executive Chairman and Founder Dr Kaizer Motaung and the club’s captain Itumeleng Khune.

Itumeleng Khune is set to go into his 20th year as a Kaizer Chiefs Football Club first-team player.

After signing his last playing contract with the club yesterday.

The Ventersdorp-born player joined Amakhosi’s first team back in the season 2004/2005.

Before making his senior team debut in 2007 against Jomo Cosmos at the age of 20.

Khune took to his Instagram account @itukhune32 to show gratitude to the club’s owner, Dr Kaizer Motaung.


“Charity begins at home, I am who I am today of the opportunity you gave me today Dr Motaung.

“You taught, developed, and natured[nurtured] me to be a humbled leader I am today,” Khune said.

“I’m grateful for trusting me with the brand for 20 years.”

Meanwhile, the club’s Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr also said a few words towards Khune.

“It is remarkable that Itu, at the age of 36, has been with Chiefs for over 20 years.

“It speaks of his love to the game, dedication, hard work, and commitment because very few achieve this feat,” Motaung jnr said.

“We hope that he gives it his all in his final season and shares his valuable experience with the younger players in the team.”

Khune will prepare for a technical role while also still playing.

The club plans to add him to their technical team at the end of next season.

He will work closely with Rainer Dinkelacker, Aubrey Mathibe, and Rory Minnaar to make his transition to the coaching world easier.
