Kaizer Chiefs starlet backed by his legendary father to step up and fill in the boots left by the injured Rushwin Dortley.

With Amakhosi faithful calling for the club to hand the young Aden McCarthy a much-deserved chance in the first team after a season ending injury to Rushwin Dortley, the legendary central defender and the father of the youngster, Fabian McCarthy believes his son is ready to handle the pressure of first team football.
Speaking to another South African football legend, Shaun Bartlett, during an interview on Top Bins Podcast, McCarthy shared the journey the 21-year-old took to be ready for an opportunity like this.

“He just got the call-up, played a few minutes, and he almost scored. I said to him,’You need to take this opportunity, even if it’s five minutes (and) make it count’,” McCarthy said.
“What he has been going through for the past two years, I must say, say he is really strong. He is doing the right things.
“I also reached out, I got him a psychologist. He’s got a personal trainer, and he is doing boxing on the side. So I just allow him to get these pieces of advice from different people, even if you guys, when you meet him, just chat with him.
“I just want to be the father, I just wanna protect him and guide him (but) at the end of the day, he has to make decisions.
“I said to him,’it’s your happiness, I don’t want you to make me happy (while) you suffer.'”
Meanwhile, the youngster travelled with the first team to KwaZulu-Natal, where Chiefs went to take on Richards Bay FC yesterday.
Chiefs suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat, and McCarthy didn’t make match day squad, and was forced to watch the match from the stands.
