Kaizer Chiefs’ fourth-choice goalkeeper Bontle Molefe is back in training after recovering from a wrist injury that sidelined him for the first three months of the season.

A long road to recovery

Molefe suffered a wrist injury during pre-season and has been undergoing rehabilitation ever since.

He has missed all the matches this season, leaving Chiefs with three fit goalkeepers: Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, and Itumeleng Khune.

According to a source close to the player, Molefe is now back in training and eager to return to action.

“He’s doing well and working hard to regain his fitness and form. He will be out for a while, but he’s determined to come back stronger,” the source said.

Molefe’s absence has not affected Chiefs’ performance so far, as they are currently eighth on the DStv Premiership table with 11 points from nine games.

Petersen has been the preferred choice between the sticks, while Bvuma and Khune have taken turns to deputise him.

A bright future ahead

Molefe has a long-term contract with Chiefs, which he signed earlier this year, indicating that he is earmarked for the future.

He is also one of the few players who have had the opportunity to train abroad, as he ttravelled to Belgium in April 2022 for a month-long trial with Royal Antwerp along with Mduduzi Shabalala.

Molefe will be hoping to make his senior debut for Chiefs soon and impress coach Molefi Ntseki.

However, he will be happy to have Molefe as an option in his goalkeeping department.
