Gaston Sirino reacts to being shown a red card by match official Cedrick Muvhali during a 2024-2025 Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United at FNB Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg on the 18th of February 2025.

Amakhosi welcomed Matsatsantsa at a wet FNB stadium on the back of good results, having gone through the last three games without defeat, winning two, and drawing one in the process.

However, on the night, the Naturena-based club met a rampant SuperSport United side that thrashed the home side 4-1 thanks to goals from Samir Nurkovic, Christian Saile, Ghampani Lungu, and former Orlando Pirates middlefielder Siphesihle Ndlovu while Chiefs’ solo strike was scored by Glody Lolipo.

In a night that everyone related to the club would like to forget, one Gaston Sirino will have fond memories of the game after he received a red card for two bookable offences in a space of 11 minutes.

He first received a yellow card in the 58th minute for deliberately trying to control the ball with his hand before getting into a scuffle with Lungu in the 69th minute to receive his second booking and ultimately sent off.

His sending off left a bitter taste in some of the club’s fans who criticised him for lacking emotional intelligence in such instances, while others went as further as accusing him of deliberately wanting to be sent off so that he won’t face his former side, Mamelodi Sundowns in their next match.

However, despite all the commotion surrounding the 33-year-old attacker, he broke his silence in a cryptic message in his Instagram story.

He posted a picture of himself in action during the match with a caption suggesting that he has learned from his red card and also from the loss.

“Learn and continue,” Sirino’s Instagram’s story read.

With Sirino Set to miss Chiefs’ next game Sundowns, the Uruguayan born player is expected to be back for the game after the Sundowns game which is expected to be the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal clash away to Stellenbosch FC.
