Kaizer Chiefs are looking for a new head coach after they sacked Molefi Ntseki on Monday following a poor start to the season.

Former Young Africans head coach Nasreddine Nabi during his time at the club.

The Amakhosi have not won a trophy since 2015 and are currently ninth in the DStv Premiership table.

There are several candidates who could take over the reins at Naturena, some of whom have previous experience with the club.

Here are five names that Chiefs might be considering for the job.

Cavin Johnson

Johnson is currently the interim head coach of Chiefs, having joined the club as the Head of Youth and Development academy in August.

He has a reputation for developing young players and has coached several teams in the DStv Premiership, including Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, AmaZulu and Black Leopards.

He also worked as an assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly in Egypt.

Johnson could be given a chance to prove himself if he can improve Chiefs’ results and performances in the league and the Nedbank Cup.

Manqoba Mngqithi

Mngqithi is one of the most respected coaches in South Africa, having won several trophies with Mamelodi Sundowns as a co-head coach and an assistant coach.

He is known for his tactical acumen and his ability to get the best out of his players.

However, he has recently been demoted to an assistant coach at Sundowns, with Rulani Mokwena taking over as the co-head coach alongside Steve Komphela.

Mngqithi’s contract with Sundowns expires next year and he might be tempted by a new challenge at Chiefs.

Muhsin Ertugral

Ertugral is a familiar face at Chiefs, having coached them twice before.

He led them to their only continental trophy, the Mandela Cup, in 2001 and also won several domestic cups with them.

He is known for his attacking style of play and his charisma.

He has also coached other teams in South Africa, such as Ajax Cape Town, Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United.

He is currently a consultant for the Turkish national team, but he might be interested in returning to Chiefs for a third stint.

Nasreddine Nabi

Nabi was reportedly close to becoming the Chiefs head coach before Ntseki was appointed, but his financial demands were too high for the club.

He is an Algerian coach who has worked in several countries, such as France, England, Algeria, Tanzania and Morocco.

He is currently in charge of FAR Rabat, but he has already been knocked out of the Caf Champions League.

He might be willing to lower his salary expectations if Chiefs approach him again.

Pitso Mosimane

Mosimane is arguably the best coach in Africa, having won multiple trophies with Sundowns and Al Ahly.

He is also a former Chiefs player and has said that he would talk to Chiefs if they contacted him about their head coach position.

However, he is currently under contract with Al Wahda in the UAE Pro League, where he earns a lucrative salary.

It would take a lot of money and persuasion for Chiefs to lure him back to South Africa.
