Kaizer Chiefs lands a new defender days after parting ways with former Supersport United centre back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.

After a rather disappointing season in the Gauteng Development League under-19 division, Amakhosi has swiftly moved to reinforce their side as they play the competition’s Knockout stages as well preparing for the new season.
Matthew Mayne has joined the Naturena-based club after a stellar 2024 season with Joburg City FC.
He was part of the Chiefs’ under-19 team that played this past weekend in the quarterfinals of the GDL.
The 2007 born defender is expected to feature in the club’s under-19 division as well as form part of the Dstv Diski Challenge team next season.
The move comes days after the club decided to sell Botswana international Ditlhokwe to Libyan giants Al Ittihad after just a season and half at Phefeni.
Ditlhokwe is expected to complete his 2 and a half seasons move this upcoming week after completing his medical.
The 26-year-old’s move to Libya could open doors for first team football for Aden McCarthy, who has struggled for a breakthrough to the first team despite being on the fringes for more two seasons now.
Should the young McCarthy move up to the senior team, Mayne could see himself be part of the reserve team sooner than he anticipated.
Amakhosi for life
💯
Good move for the glamour boys management and McCarthy deserve this opportunity and I believe he will succeed
I think he will definitely be part of the first team now
