Kaizer Chiefs attacker Ashley Du Preez is in hospital after suffering an injury during the club’s last match.
The attacker was rushed to hospital after a tackle from Cape Town City FC defender Taariq Fielies.
Despite carrying on for 10 minutes, Du Preez left the field for Khama Billiat in the 44th minute.
Referee Moses Kheswa sent off Fielies for the challenge.
However, City’s coach Eric Tinkler feels the red card is unfair and should have been a yellow card instead.
But Chiefs’ Communication manager Vina Maphosa revealed that the attacker suffered a career-threatening injury.
“Without being prejudice[ed], the player Ashley Du Preez has been admitted to hospital with a suspected fracture to his leg. So it might be more serious than it looked,” told the journalists.
On the day Chiefs saw two players go off with injuries, Billiat also left the field through an injury.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker’s first appearance since October last year lasted less than five minutes.
He was subbed during the halftime break for a suspected groin injury that kept him out for more than six months.
Putting his chances of getting a new deal at the club in danger.
His current ends at the end of next month and the club is unlikely to retain his services.
The 32-year-old Zimbabwean is not short of suitors with clubs in North Africa showing interest.
