One of the players that was facing the axe at the club was former now-defunct Bidvest Wits star Ben Motshwari.

Motshwari was linked with a move away from Mayfair based giants.

With his contract running out, he was one of the first players expected to leave once the season was complete.

With both Kaizer Chiefs and Supersport United showing interest in the player and set to battle for the player, the 32-year-old decided against joining either team.

The South African international was certain to leave the Buccaneers for either Chiefs or Supersport on a free transfer.

But at the last minute, Pirates offered him an enticing one-year deal.

He accepted the deal and decided to stay and fight for his place in the team despite being overlooked for the most part of the 2022/2023 season.
