The fans threw objects at the bench, damaged seats, and ripped parts of the FNB Stadium in Soweto.

Late goal seals Chiefs’ fate

The match was decided by a late goal from AmaZulu defender Taariq Fielies in the 88th minute, which gave the visitors a 1-0 win and a place in the quarter-finals.

Chiefs had failed to create clear chances throughout the game despite having Keagan Dolly in the starting line-up for the first time this season.

The defeat extended Chiefs’ trophy drought to eight years and increased the pressure on coach Molefi Ntseki, who had to be escorted by security after the final whistle.

Fans vent their anger

Some Chiefs fans could not contain their emotions and started to hurl missiles at their own bench at the end of the game.

A video posted on social media showed fans ripping off seats and fences while attacking Ntseki and the players.

The fans also chanted slogans against the club management and Ntseki, demanding changes and accountability.

The vandalism caused significant damage to the stadium, which is owned by the City of Johannesburg.

Paying the price

Meanwhile, the club is expected to play their home matches without fans once the PSL DC decide on their ruiling, having previously warned them of possible ban for the fans should they get violent again.
