Cape Town Spurs lodges an appeal with SAFA regarding the outcome of the PSL DRC regarding Asanele Velebayi’s contractual status.

On Saturday, the 9th of August 2025, PSL DRC ruled in favour of Velebayi in his case against Spurs, declaring the player as a free agent.
Upon receiving the outcome, Spurs promised to fight the ruling as the player still has a contract with the club, and any club that wants to sign him should play between R8 to R10 million.
However, the 22-year-old was unveiled as a Chiefs player on a long-term deal on Tuesday, the 12th of August, while on the same day, the Urban Warriors lodged an appeal of the outcome with FIFA.
The appeal subsequently suspends the PSL DRC ruling until SAFA reaches an outcome on the appeal, meaning Velebayi is still a Spurs player until the SAFA’s ruling.
The appeal blocks Amakhosi from registering the South African international, as currently he is not the club’s player despite being unveiled.
Meanwhile, Asanele Velebayi’s teammates, Luke Baartman and Liam Bern, are still waiting for their outcomes from their respective cases at the PSL DRC.
The duo is also looking to become free agents, as they are looking to join Chiefs and AmaZulu respectively on free transfers, having been reported to have signed contracts with the clubs.
