Mamelodi Sundowns fans raised bomb scare issues ahead of the AFL second leg final between Sundowns and Wydad Athletic Club.


AFL Final: Fans Reporting To SAPS

After spectators misunderstood, Pyrotechnician Max Charles for setting up explosive device,  and they contacted the police as they felt their lives were in danger.

However, upon arriving at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, the police removed the Pyrotechnician from the venue and went on to deal with the situation.

SAPS Clearing The Misunderstanding 

Upon arrival at the venue, the Inspector of Explosives Section, who quickly established that Charles is a professional Pyrotechnician and was legally setting up Stage Effects Display.

He was later permitted back into the venue to continue his job.

AFL Final: Cause Of The Confusion 

After the display was completed, the Inspector of Explosives Section again reported to the VOC Commander Brigadier Kgoadi on what caused the confusion.

It was established that the video clips and photos that went viral on social media played a huge part in this misunderstanding.

Pyrotechnician’s Previous Work At Loftus Versfeld Stadium 

After the misunderstanding, it was established that Charles has previously set up similar stage effects in the past without no problems.

And this was all down to a one huge misunderstanding from ignorant fans.

Match Outcome

Sundowns went on to beat Wydad AC 2-0 thanks to goals from Peter Shalulile and Aubrey Modiba to win the match 3-2 on aggregate and lift the AFL cup.
