Ethiopian international Abubeker Nasir is likely to join Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season, as his time at SuperSport United is heading for an end.

SuperSport United attacker Abubeker Nasir during a training session at Chloorkop ahead of the 2024-2025 season.

Before a successful trial stint back in 2022 that led to him signing a lucrative long-term deal with Mamelodi Sundowns, Nasir was heavily linked with a move to Amakhosi.

His move to Sundowns was filled with injury setbacks that led to the club to partways with the player heading to the current season.

Having spent almost three months without a club, the 25-year-old was snapped up by SuperSport United on a one-year deal back in October last year but is yet to feature the club.

The attacker is set to leave Matsatsantsa a Pitori without playing a single competitive match for the club after the club decides to deregister him, as stated by KickOff Magezine.

The publication reports that the player hasn’t been at the club since featuring for his national team in the last international break, where he scored a hat-trick in one of the two matches he played.

“Haven’t seen him here at SuperSport since FIFA break,” the publication’s source at the club states.

“He is not registered to play for us. Our foreign space is full.”

However, according to our source close to the player, Nasir is likely to head to Naturena, but the only thing that could stand in his way is his persistent injuries that have hit him hard in the last two-plus years.

“With his SuperSport United career likely to be done, the player could head to Naturena, where he has always been admired,” the source states.

“But the only thing that could stand in his way is his injury track record that doesn’t look good, but the move to Chiefs is indeed a thing that could happen.”
