Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou reacts to his side’s 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United in the 2025-2026 Betway Premiership opener.

After starting the season with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Polokwane City in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 last week, Pirates were stunned by Sekhukhune United at home.
A goal from Siphesihle Mkhize saw the Buccaneers suffer a first defeat under their new coach, who was satisfied with his side despite the defeat.
Speaking to SuperSport TV after the match, the Morrocan tactician said that they were a lot of interesting things, and his side had to keep on believing as it is only the beginning.
He further went on to share that his side wanted to win the match especially given they were playing at home, but he was impressed with how they were organised, the number of chances, and good football they were playing.
But despite the intensity and the good behaviour they put into the match, the only thing he felt his side lacked was the finishing.
The coach insisted that they are now focusing on the next match, as this is only the beginning and nothing is lost, and they also have to keep on believing.
Ouaddou’s troops are next in action against his former side, Marumo Gallants, on Tuesday evening.
Gallants will welcome the Sea Robbers at the back of a 2-1 victory over Richards Bay on their league opener.
