Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung responds to the ongoing transfer battle between Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman and Cape Town Spurs.

After Spurs was relegated from the second division of South African football, AmaZulu FC and Amakhosi quickly went in and signed three of the club’s young top talents on free transfer namely, Asanele Velebayi, Luke Baartman, and Liam Bern.
However, Spurs have since denied officially releasing the players, citing that the players are still contracted to the club and ordered them back.
The club’s calls fell on deaf ears as the players have not reported for pre-season preparations at the Urban Warriors, forcing the club to take the legal route to fix the issue.
From today onwards, the Disciplinary Resolution Chamber will hear submissions from all parties involved and later deliver a solution to this transfer saga.
Having been reported to have signed Baartman and Velebayi, Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung had her say and where the club stands on the matter.
Speaking to media on Monday morning during the unveiling of the 2025-2026 season jerseys, Motaung stated that the club is handling the matter professionally as they are trying to avoid mistakes that could impact how the club is ran going forward.
She also reiterated that the club won’t engage with other clubs players especially when they are still contracted to the clubs.
