Orlando Pirates is likely to beat Kaizer Chiefs to the signing of Stellenbosch FC and Bafana Bafana left fullback Fawaaz Basadien.

For much of the last four transfer windows, Amakhosi have been trying to stabilise their troublesome left fullback position by trying to sign Basadien but to no success.
Chiefs has struggled to meet Stellies’ asking price for the former now-defunct Moroka Swallows player, which is believed to be over R10 million.

Chiefs’ struggles to seal the deal for the 29-year-old seems to have opened doors for their arch-rivals, Pirates to snatch him up according to The Citizen.
According to the publication, the player is keen to moving to a bigger club and tests himself, and has remained professional despite the club denying him a move to Chiefs, and Pirates has now entered the race to sign him.
“It (has) not been easy for (Fawaaz) Basadien because he is keen on trying out a new experience at a bigger club,” the publication states.
“But he has remained professional even though the club didn’t accept any offer for him this season.
“Chiefs Interest was serious, but there was no agreement reached between the two clubs, and now it looks like Pirates is coming in strong for him.
“Don’t be surprised to see him joining them when the season ends, but you never know in football because things change and other clubs might come knocking as well.”
Meanwhile, the Sea Robbers are also reported to be looking to sign Basadien’s teammate, Thabo Moloisane, but faces challenge from Mamelodi Sundowns.
