Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has his say on Patrick Maswanganyi’s showboating that has left South African football fraternity divided.

With some of the highlights of the former SuperSport United middlefielder’s showboating being the cheeky last-minute panenka penalty against arch-rivals, Kaizer Chiefs and losing a ball during a 4-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns that saw Lucas Ribeiro score a wonderful solo strike, Maswanganyi has had a season of ups and downs.
However, despite leaving the football fraternity divided, the Pirates head coach has backed the middlefielder to continue, but only if it doesn’t cost the team.

Jose Riveiro On Patrick Maswanganyi’s Showboating!
“Tito is the type of player South African football fans want to see on the field, especially in those type of games,” Riveiro said on the club’s documentary Bucs Camp.
“He brings flair, the identity of our football and the origin of our football. So, Tito comes from that place, and he must always be himself.
“But he must not forget that we are playing to win. He must never forget that we are in the business of winning and getting three points and winning matches. We are not in the business of stepping onto the ball and doing tricks.
“But I think Tito is one of those players that I recognise that they need to do those things to get the confidence and get a little bit of arrogance, which is necessary. I think our fans love it.”
