Orlando Pirates attacking middlefielder Patrick Maswanganyi hits back at Orlando Pirates legend Jomo Sono’s controversial ant-elephant comparison.

Earlier this season, the outspoken Jomo Cosmos owner and coach, Sono, ruffled some feathers by shutting down a comparison made of himself and Maswanganyi after the latter was handed the legendary jersey number 10 for the CAF Champions League campaign.
Sono claimed that an elephant can not be compared with an ant, claiming that the 26-year-old can not be compared to his legendary status at Pirates.

A statement that didn’t sit well with the former SuperSport United middlefielder, who shared his disappointment in the club’s legend during the new season of the club’s documentary, Bucs Show.
Patrick Maswanganyi Responding to Jomo Sono
“‘You can’t compare an ant to an elephant’ that’s what I remember because it didn’t sit well with me,” Maswanganyi stated during the show.
“Whatever he said, maybe he hasn’t seen the type of person I am, and personally, I don’t play football to prove anything or to show people what I am capable of.
“Every time I get on the ground it’s because I want to enjoy football, and I want to win.
“As a person you shouldn’t look down on anyone regardless of who you are and what you do.
“I think for the fact that I play for the same team you played for and did well in, I think a person like him should instead be supportive so that we can also believe we can reach his heights.
“Because we are here to try outdo those before us and many will still come to surpass us.
“So, if he can’t teach us to treat the next Orlando Pirates players right, we won’t want to either, we will feel like we are just returning the favour for how we were treated.”
